Nebbiolo ranks amongst the most noble and profound wines, particularly when from Piedmont region in the Northwest part of Italy. With the proper site selection and careful farming, increasingly it is seeing success in the new world. That is the case with the care and love Coyote Canyon provides their small blocks of Nebbiolo in their vineyard near Prosser in the Horse Heaven Hills of the Columbia Valley Washington. In the winery, this has been given traditional and non-traditional treatments, all natural, to mirror the old world in this exemplary new world site. 50% whole cluster fermentation, extended cold maceration, a preponderance of old wood, and long barrel aging all contribute to classic distinctive Nebbiolo characteristics of iron, tar, rose petals and delicate fruit on a platform that is both silky and yet still supported by sharply focused tannins.
