As with the inaugural 2008 vintage, the 2009 Luminous Hills “silver label” is a blend of high-toned fruit characteristics derived from the 667 Pinot Noir clone planted on higher elevation volcanic soils, along with the spicy, fatter, and darker notes from the 115 and Pommard clones planted on sedimentary soils on the lover elevations of Luminous Hills. A distinguishing characteristic of the 2009 vintage in Luminous Hills, in addition to generally being a larger wine all around, were the characteristics that provided for whole cluster fermentation. This wine uses 20% whole cluster fermented fruit.
