A new blend from the Luminous Hills Vineyard for the 2009 Vintage, Astra, like the “silver label”, uses 667 from the volcanic soils on the upper elevations of the vineyard, and 115 from the lower elevation sedimentary soils, but no Pommard. However, the Astra uses a much higher percentage of whole cluster fermentation, all from the 667 lot. The result is a rich, expressive wine, much like the Lux in terms of texture and depth, but with a more high- toned personality than the bass note driven Lux.
