As with the Lux, the Astra in the superb 2019 vintage takes on a heightened expression of its usual self, built from three barrels made from the southeastern and mostly higher elevation part of the vineyard: two of the spicy 667 clone planted on the red-fruit driven Jory volcanic soils, complemented by a select complementary barrel of 115 clone planted on sedimentary soil, providing dark tone underpinnings and depth. This microclimate in the vineyard and the clones that suit it best, produces finesse and elegance supported by a frame of richness and texture.
